An eSIM for your ski trip

Keep the group chat going from the lift queue to the chalet, and check the weather before you head up. Prepaid data, with no plastic SIM to fiddle with in gloves.

Why it helps

Why an eSIM helps on a ski trip

Find your group, check the weather and share the view, without a surprise bill when you get home.

  • Connected for the transfer

Install your eSIM on Wi-Fi before you travel and switch it on when you arrive, so you can message the chalet or check your transfer on the way up. Your plan's validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network, not when you install it.

  • Meet up on the mountain

Our eSIMs are data-only, so your home SIM stays in your phone for calls and texts. Use apps like WhatsApp or Messenger to call, message and share your location with the rest of the group over data.

  • Sorted for the whole group

Skiing with friends or family? Buy everyone's eSIMs in one checkout, create a trip and share a single Group Trip Sharing link. Each person claims and installs their own eSIM.

  • Extra days on the slopes?

Add data to the eSIM you already have from your account, with nothing new to install. Top-ups are for the same country or region your eSIM covers.

Data guide

How much data will I need?

Days on the slopes are usually light on data. Uploading videos and streaming in the evenings is what eats into your allowance.

  • Maps, messages and the weather

    Light use

Finding the lift, the restaurant and your group, checking the forecast and keeping up with messages.

  • Sharing photos and browsing social apps

    Moderate use

Photos from the slopes add up over a week, and scrolling social apps in the lift queue adds more.

  • Uploading videos and video calls

    Heavy use

The biggest use. Save uploading clips from your phone or action camera, and long video calls home, for Wi-Fi at the hotel or chalet.

  • Streaming and sharing data in the evenings

    Heavy use

Films, shows and a tablet or laptop on your hotspot all come out of your allowance. Download what you want to watch on Wi-Fi before you travel.

Tips for a connected ski trip

  • Turn on data roaming for the eSIM

When you arrive, choose the eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it: the eSIM needs roaming on to connect. With the eSIM as your data line, your home SIM isn't used for data by mistake.

  • Save maps for the mountain

Download offline maps of the resort and the valley on Wi-Fi before you head up. Coverage can be patchy in remote mountain areas, and an offline map still shows the way back to the lift or the chalet.

  • Pack a power bank

Maps, photos and messages all drain your battery over a long day on the slopes. Keep a power bank in your jacket so you can still find your group at the end of the day.

Questions

Ski trip eSIM questions

Coverage can be patchier in remote areas with limited local infrastructure. If you're only getting 3G, make sure LTE or 5G is enabled in your Voice & Data settings, and try manual network selection to pick another supported network.
