Your UK backup eSIM

Introducing Sidekick

Backup data for when your main network drops out

Sidekick is a data-only eSIM that sits alongside your current SIM. When your main network drops out, your phone switches data to Sidekick on one of the other UK networks. Your allowance also works across the EU, EEA and Switzerland at no extra cost. Every plan starts with a 30-day free trial.

  • Backup data on EE, O2, Vodafone or Three
  • EU, EEA & Switzerland roaming included
  • Works alongside your current SIM
Sidekick staying connected on the best available UK network: EE, O2, Vodafone or Three, with roaming across the EU, EEA and Switzerland
How it works

Two SIMs, one phone, fewer dead spots

Sidekick doesn't replace anything. It sits alongside the SIM you already have and steps in when your main network can't.

Stays in charge

Your main SIM

  • Your number, calls and texts
  • Your default line for everyday data
  • Your usual contract, unchanged

Main signal drops?

Backup data

Sidekick

  • A second, data-only eSIM line
  • Uses EE, O2, Vodafone or Three, but not your main network
  • Also works in the EU, EEA and Switzerland
The honest version

What Sidekick is, and what it isn't

Sidekick is

  • A backup data eSIM for the UK
  • Installed alongside your current SIM, so you keep your number
  • Connected through the major UK networks: EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, avoiding the one your main SIM uses
  • Roaming across the EU, the EEA and Switzerland at no extra cost
  • A monthly or 12-month subscription that starts with a 30-day free trial

Sidekick isn't

  • For calls or texts. It's data-only, though apps that use data, like WhatsApp, keep working over it
  • A replacement for your main contract or your number
  • A travel eSIM for the rest of the world: outside the UK, EU, EEA and Switzerland it won't connect

Where no UK network has signal, no SIM can connect. Sidekick helps wherever any of the four networks has signal, not where none do.

Who it's for

Anyone whose signal has a bad habit

Eight everyday moments when a second network helps.

  • Rail commuters

Laptop open, report due, and somewhere past the cutting your signal gets off the train.

Emails, calendars and your commute playlist keep going.

  • Village life

One bar of signal, and only if you stand on the bench by the post box.

Messages, maps and the village group chat keep going.

  • Couriers and trades

Ninety-eight drops, and the delivery app stops loading halfway down a country lane.

Routes, delivery apps, quotes and invoices keep going.

  • Parents on days out

Farm park. Three children. One lost welly. And a group chat that won't send.

Messages, photos and meeting-point pins keep going.

  • Hybrid and remote workers

A café, a spare room, and a video call that freezes on your least flattering face.

Video calls, emails and shared documents keep going on your phone.

  • Countryside walkers

Six miles in, a fork in the path, and the map on your phone has gone blank.

Maps and messages keep going wherever one of the four networks reaches. Pack a paper map too.

  • Students

Library basement, deadline at midnight, and the only thing loading is your stress levels.

Group chats, uploads and online lectures keep going.

  • UK and EU travellers

Monday in Manchester, Wednesday in Madrid.

Your allowance also works across the EU, EEA and Switzerland at no extra cost, for occasional trips.

Roaming included

Roams with you across Europe

Use your Sidekick allowance in every EU and EEA country and in Switzerland, at no extra cost. Abroad, Sidekick connects to our partner networks there, so your backup line keeps working on holidays and business trips.

Sidekick is a UK product with roaming included for periodic travel, not for permanent use abroad. See our Fair Use Policy for details.

Three steps to your backup line

Once your subscription starts, we email you when your Sidekick eSIM is ready to install. It also appears under eSIMs in your account.

  1. Choose a plan

Pick your data, tell us which network your main phone is on, and start with a 30-day free trial.

  2. Install and turn on roaming

Install the eSIM from your email, then turn on data roaming for the Sidekick line. It won't connect without it, even at home.

  3. Turn on data switching

Leave the Sidekick line switched on, keep your main SIM as your default line, and let your phone switch data to Sidekick when your main signal drops.

Why roaming? Sidekick connects to UK networks as a roaming partner, so your phone treats it as roaming even at home. You won't pay extra roaming charges: everything comes out of your Sidekick allowance. Only the Sidekick line needs roaming on.

When your Sidekick eSIM first connects, we text the Sidekick line to confirm it's live.

Not connecting? First check that data roaming is on for the Sidekick line: that solves most problems. Then toggle flight mode on and off, or restart your phone.

Before you buy

Choosing your main network

At checkout we ask which network your main phone is on: EE, O2, Vodafone or Three. Sidekick then avoids that network, so it can keep you online when your main network fails.

Not with one of the four? Many providers run on one of them. Choose your provider from the list at checkout and we'll show which network it runs on.

The 30-day free trial, explained

Every Sidekick plan, monthly or 12-month, starts with 30 days free for new subscribers.

  • Who qualifies

First-time Sidekick subscribers. If you've had a Sidekick subscription before, even on an account you've since deleted, a new one starts without a trial.

  • Card, but no charge

We ask for a card when you sign up, but don't charge it during the trial.

  • A reminder first

We email you 3 days before the trial ends. After that, your subscription continues and your first payment is taken.

  • Changed your mind?

Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged. Cancelling ends the trial and switches off your Sidekick eSIM straight away.
